Having photographed the collaborative book between Lesley Magwood-Fraser and myself, I reada newspaper with this concept in mind. I was struck how we as humans are bound by life, its circumstances, the physical world which we inhabit, the nefarious acts of others, situations over which we have no control. |

The concept of the book was about representing real life binding interspersed by representations of binding. The threads spoke of the physical fabric used for binding, and how the circumstances of binding causes lives to become knotted together. I tore from the newspaper, on that one particular day, various articles in which people had been robbed, died, lost their homes, floods, death notices; anything to do with how we are bound to this physical existence. The articles were all taken from the Daily News of 12 December 2009, hence the use of the date in the title of the book. |
